Why 3 Gubei nights and not 2: with only 2 you would have to cram the Simatai Night Wall AND the Jinshanling ridge hike into the same day, check out on the third morning, and lose the leisurely water-town feel entirely. Three nights buys you a dedicated sleep day (day 1 — you land at 07:00 on a red-eye), an active night-wall evening (day 2), a wild morning hike (day 3), and hot springs without ever feeling rushed.
Base 2 pick: 珠市口 / 前门南 — it is the one location that makes the whole city block work. Line 7 direct to Universal Studios (no change, 17 stops), 1 stop to 虎坊桥 for the Liyuan opera, Line 8 direct through 什刹海 · 南锣鼓巷 · 中国美术馆 · 王府井 · 前门 · 天桥, and a 10-min walk to the 一号线 for 北京南站 (Tianjin trains) and 四惠 (the bathhouse). 王府井 is the alternative if you want the shopping downstairs.
🧭 Geography audit — is anything out of place?
Verdict3 bases, 3 hotel changes, 11 nights — and every one of them is a one-way move. Nothing crosses the city twice. The mountain week comes first so the red-eye lands you somewhere you can actually sleep, and the 7-night city block means you unpack once and stay put.
Base 1 → 2Nov 9 ends on the Jinshanling ridge in Hebei → Nov 10 drives 134 km south to the city. Straight line, no backtrack — you never return to Miyun.
Base 2 → 3Nov 17 shopping ends central, then you move SE to the Tonghui River bathhouse. One-way, and it puts you on the expressway for the 05:15 airport run.
Nov 10 — arrival day, templesYou check in at 11:30 and go straight to 雍和宫 + 国子监 — 20 min from 珠市口 and open every day (unlike the museums). A soft, short first city day after a mountain week.
Nov 11 — sunset mathsSunset is 16:52. The Summer Palace alone is 4–5 h and 10,000–14,000 steps, so 圆明园 after it means reaching the Western Mansions in the dark. The plan is 钓鱼台 ginkgo 08:00 → Summer Palace 09:45–15:00. 圆明园 is marked optional and only works before the palace.
Nov 13 — the tight oneForbidden City 08:30 → 景山 ¥2 → NAMOC 14:30–16:00 (last entry 16:00, so it is a 90-minute visit, not a full one) → opera 19:30 at 虎坊桥. The Forbidden City closes at 16:30, so the morning slot is not optional — and NAMOC has to be at 14:30 or the day breaks.
Nov 14 — market moved红桥市场 (天坛路9号) is diagonally opposite the Temple of Heaven East Gate — so it belongs on Day 8, not Day 11. Day 8 is 天坛 → 红桥 → 潘家园 (10-min Didi, Sat peak) → Qianmen. Day 11 becomes a deliberately relaxed final shopping day.
Nov 15 — one passSquare BEFORE the museum, not after. The NMC sits on the square's east edge, so museum-then-square means walking the Tiananmen security cordon twice — on a Sunday that is 45–60 min each time. Reversed, you pass once: square (morning slot) → museum → out the north exit onto 东长安街 → 南池子 duck → 798 → 什刹海.
Nov 16 — the MondayThe theme park is the right use of a Monday. The Forbidden City, National Museum and Capital Museum are all closed on Mondays, so a museum day was impossible anyway — and Universal runs every day with 15–35 min queues instead of 90–120. Line 7 goes direct from 珠市口, no change.

One thing to knowThe flamenco at NCPA (《飞越弗拉明戈》) ran Nov 6–7 only — the day you land. It was the right answer to "a 张艺谋-style show" but the dates are before you arrive. NCPA has new shows every week in November; check chncpa.org before you fly.
📍 Base 2 — 珠市口 vs 王府井? (your question)
Short answer珠市口 Zhushikou / 前门南 is the strongest pick — because of what this itinerary actually needs. Beijing traffic is bad enough that you pick the base by which lines it sits on, and this one is on the two that matter most
Why 珠市口 winsLine 7 goes straight to 环球度假区 (Universal Studios) — 17 stops, no change, ~40–45 min. And 珠市口 → 虎坊桥 is 1 stop, so the Liyuan opera is a 5-minute walk from your front door. Line 8 runs the whole imperial spine from the same station
Line 8 ⭐The tourist spine. 北土城 → 奥林匹克公园 → 鼓楼大街 → 什刹海 → 南锣鼓巷 → 中国美术馆 → 金鱼胡同 → 王府井 → 前门 → 天桥. From 珠市口: 什刹海 and the Drum Tower food street are one stop north, 中国美术馆 and 王府井 one stop south, 前门 and 天桥 two stops. Your entire hutong-and-park itinerary on one train

My pick珠市口 / 前门南 — it is the only base that makes Universal Studios and the Peking Opera both easy, and Line 8 covers everything else. Choose 王府井 if you want the shopping downstairs; 平安里 only if the hotel is genuinely there — don't move base for a line you won't use.

Museum Mondays: Nov 9 and Nov 16 both fall on a Monday — and the Forbidden City, National Museum and Capital Museum are all closed on Mondays. So both Mondays are used for things that are open: Nov 9 is the Jinshanling ridge (a mountain, not a museum) and Nov 16 is Universal Studios. The only museum that needed a working day — NAMOC — sits on Friday Nov 13, which is why that day is the tight one.

Two things are bookable RIGHT NOW, before any alarm: (1) the Nov 12 Tianjin train — 15-day pre-sale means it has been open since Oct 29, and (2) the Nov 16 Universal Studios date-locked ticket, which sells by tier. Everything else has a fixed release time. All real-name — every booking needs each traveller's passport number exactly as printed. Bring physical passports everywhere. Note: cancelling the mandatory reservation rule at a park (天坛, 颐和园, 圆明园, 雍和宫, 八达岭 all dropped it in Aug/Oct 2026) did not cancel real-name ticketing — you still buy with your passport number, you just no longer queue for a booking slot.

HeatingBeijing municipal central heating (暖气) switches on ~Nov 15. Nov 10–14 city indoors can be cold — check your hotel has independent heating, ask for an extra blanket. The Gubei resort and the bathhouse both have hot water. Mall 暖气 in November is the other warm option.

🎯 My take on your plan
1. Two wall days is exactly right
WhySimatai night (Nov 10) + Jinshanling morning (Nov 11) covers the two experiences people cross the country for. Don't add Mutianyu or Badaling — you'd be doing three of the same thing.
2. Forbidden City on Nov 13 is a HALF day — plan for it
HoursLow season (Nov 1–Mar 31): open 08:30, last entry 15:30, closes 16:30. So it's a morning visit, not a full day.
Do08:30 entry → 3–4h inside → exit 神武门 → 景山 Jingshan ¥2 for the golden-roof panorama → lunch → light afternoon (Beihai / hutong) → Liyuan opera 19:30.
3. Tianjin moved to Nov 12 — book that train TODAY, not on an alarm
⚠️ Window12306 sells 15 days ahead including the travel day. For Nov 12 travel, tickets went on sale Oct 29 — they are already available. There is no release moment left to catch. Book the 09:15 C-train now so you land in Tianjin at 09:48 with a whole day ahead.
Which stationPick 天津站, not 天津西 — it is the central one, walkable to 意式风情区 and the Hai River. 二等座 ¥54.5, ~300 trains/day.
Thursday bonusYou moved Tianjin off a Monday on purpose, and it pays: the 五大道 mansion museums close Mondays, so Thursday gets the full set open — which is what makes a same-day trip worth doing.
Backup12306 候补 (waitlist) — submit and it auto-buys you a seat when one frees.
4. Gubei in-gate hotel is the right call — and good value
Math水镇大酒店 from ¥910 / 古北之光 from ¥1,150 include 2 water-town tickets + 2-person hot spring + free shuttle. That's ~¥300 of tickets bundled in. Ask for a 长城景观 room with a wall view.
5. Book the Simatai night ticket the moment you book the hotel
WhyCapacity-limited and it is the single best thing in Base 1. Nov 8 is a Sunday: 17:30–20:10 entry, 20:40 clear-out (Fri/Sat run 40 min later). Book the combo — water town entry + night tour + return cable car — from ~¥150.
6. 曲水兰亭 四惠店 is the right Base 3 — it's literally on your map
Where惠河南街1070号, Chaoyang — East 4th Ring / Tonghui River, exactly the corridor you described. ~50–60 min on the expressway to Daxing at 05:15.
Alt水裹汤泉 (your Chengdu favourite) has Beijing branches if you want the familiar format. 曲水兰亭 is the more premium one.
7. Private driver for the Gubei block — one package, not three bookings
HowBook one charter for the whole Nov 10–12 block (downtown→Gubei, Gubei↔Jinshanling, Gubei→Wangfujing). Klook 私人包车 or a hotel-arranged driver: roughly ¥1,200–1,600 total for the 3 days with a wait on the 11th.
Budget alt望京西 shuttle ¥48/pax departs 09:00 & 13:00 (134km, 2h) for the transfer legs, Didi for the Jinshanling hop (~¥120–180 each way).
8. Swaps if something slips
Nov 11If the Summer Palace crowds you out, swap to 明十三陵 Ming Tombs (定陵 underground palace) — quieter on a weekday, 1.5h north of the city.
Nov 14If the markets are mobbed, 陶然亭公园 + 湖广会馆 (Qing guild hall acrobatics) — both quieter, both on the way back.
Nov 12Tianjin optional — if the weather turns, 明十三陵 or a 什刹海 hutong day works instead. The train tickets are refundable before departure.
🍜 Where LOCALS eat — not the tourist traps
The rule for Beijing
Where to lookEat where there is no English menu and a queue of people who work there. Qianmen and Wangfujing are for tourists; the real Beijing food is in 牛街 Niujie, 鼓楼 Gulou, 平安里 and the back-alley hutongs.
The trapRestaurants with English menus, "Old Beijing Cuisine" signs, and staff hovering at the door are charging 2–3x for the same dish. Walk 200m from any tourist strip instead.
🥇 牛街 Niujie — the single best food street in Beijing
WhyHui-Muslim quarter, 1,000 years of food. Half the street is halal and the queues are local families, not tourists. Line 19, 2 stops from 平安里 — make it a dedicated trip.
Must eat聚宝源 Jùbǎoyuán — lamb copper-pot hotpot, the legend, WeChat queue at 16:00 for an 18:00 table, ¥80–120/pp · 白记年糕 Báijì Niángāo — Beijing's best 年糕, soft and sweet, buy at the window, ¥28 · 洪记小吃 Hóngjì — 羊杂汤 lamb-offal soup + 炸糕, the working-man's breakfast · 宝记豆汁店 — the good douzhi · 宫廷香酥牛肉饼 — the beef pastry, best in the city.
Extra买牛肉饼 + 糖火烧 to eat on the 980 bus back. The street is Muslim — no pork, and dress modestly.
🥈 鼓楼 Gulou — the 老北京 breakfast street
WhyOne block of shops doing the same thing for 100 years, all doing it well. This is where Beijing eats breakfast.
Must eat姚记炒肝 Yáojì — "要想吃炒肝，鼓楼一拐弯" (turn the corner at Gulou for chaogan). 炒肝 + 灌肠 + 包子, eaten standing, ¥20–30 · 方砖厂69号 — 炸酱面 in a hutong, ¥20, the noodles are mixed at the table · 门框胡同百年卤煮 — 卤煮火烧, offal + tofu + bread in garlic broth, ¥35, genuinely local · 百年义利 — old-school bakery.
🥉 护国寺小吃 Hùguósì — the snack institution
WhyScatter branches all over the city, cash, no frills, zero tourists. The reference point for Beijing street snacks.
Must eat豌豆黄 (yellow pea cake) · 艾窝窝 (glutinous rice bun) · 豆面糕 · 爆肚 (if you're brave) · and the 豆汁 + 焦圈 — the fermented mung-bean drink. Eat the douzhi at the branch near Gulou, not a mall — the mall one is a diluted tourist version.
🥈 磁器口 / 前门 area — old brands, mostly local

Answer to "千古情 / 张艺谋-style spectacular?"
Short answerThere is no 千古情 in Beijing (that brand's flagship is Hangzhou/Sanya/Chengdu). Beijing's equivalent is live performance on a smaller stage — and in November it's genuinely world-class, because the 北京国际戏剧展演季 (Oct–Nov) imports 120 productions from 20 countries.
